Mesothelioma is a rare form of aggressive cancer that affects people who have had a long and sustained history of either direct or indirect exposure to asbestos, a mineral which had been used in a lot of industrial products, especially in the 19th century, until its cancerous effects were revealed to the public. Asbestos particles float around in the ari and enter the body, most commonly through the nose or the sputum and settle in the lungs to form malignant mesothelioma cells. There are three kinds of mesothelioma that can happen to a person with prolonged asbestos exposure. The first and the most common type is called Pleural Mesothelioma. In this the malignant cells are formed in the lining or the sac that encloses the lungs within. It also contains a thin membrane called the mesothelium which helps the movement of the lungs while breathing. The asbestos fibers cause irreparable damage to the mesothelium. However, about 75% of all mesothelioma cases are cases of pleural mesothelioma, since most of the asbestos particles are airborne and enter the victim through the nose. The second form of mesothelioma is called Peritoneal Mesothelioma. This affects the peritoneum which is the membrane surrounding the gastrointestinal tract and provides it with lubrication to assist movement. In this kind of mesothelioma, the tumours develop on the stomach lining. The third form of mesothelioma is the rarest form and is called Pericardial Mesothelioma. In this the pericardium or the membrane that covers and lubricates the heart is affected by the asbestos particles. The latter shred the pericardium and cause genetic mutations to occur, ultimately resulting in mesothelioma. Usually 5% of all mesothelioma cases are pericardial mesothelioma. All the three forms of mesothelioma have common courses of treatment which include radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. The last form is usually the most drastic form of treatment where the cancer cells are operated upon. These treatments do not aim at a complete cure and aim to extend the lifespan of the patient by five or more number of years. As of yet, no certain cure has been found and experiments are on at full course. Immunotherapy is another experimental form of treatment that is slowly yielding results. |

Mesothelioma is a very aggressive cancer that affects the lining of the vital organs of the body. As of now the only known cause for the same has been discovered to be long and sustained exposure to asbestos whose naturally occurring fibers enter the body and penetrate the lining or the mesothelium. Due to its inherently complex nature there will be a lot of medical processes and different types of treatment that the patient will have to undergo. Different doctors will be required for different forms of medical procedure. The list is bound to get a little convoluted so here is a list of the different kinds of doctors that are required. Firstly there is the general practitioner. He will be taking care of the daily requirements and your little ailments like the flu or a sprain. He will be the first person that the you will need to talk to about your symptoms and after listening to your entire medical history and also that of asbestos exposure, if he thinks that it might be cancer he will refer you to the next one in line who will be an oncologist or a doctor who specializes in cancer. He will instruct the patient to do tests like CT Scans, MRIs or X-rays, will test lung functionality or even suggest a biopsy. If the tests show positive for cancer then the patient will be referred to a surgeon providing the cancer is in an operable state. Otherwise he will suggest chemotherapy, radiation or some other alternative cure. The oncologist is the person who will detail out the entire procedures that follow a diagnosis of mesothelioma. Then comes the radiologist who will carry out the X-rays, MRIs and/or the CT scans. If the oncologist suggest that the patient needs radiology then the radiologist will administer that. This is followed by the pulmonary therapist. This means a lung specialist who will observe how mesothelioma has affected your respiratory organs. Since lung mesothelioma is the most common form of mesothelioma therefore the patients find it very difficult to breathe with the gradual metastasizing of the cancer. Then it is the job of the pulmonary therapist to give treatment and different ways to make breathing easier. Lastly comes the psychologist who helps the patient get over the various emotional problems that affect the mental state of mesothelioma patients. |

Mesothelioma is such a cancer to which there is no permanent or standardized cure. Most of the cures either aim to slow the growth of the cancer or act as purely palliative measures. But again, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. The field of science is in a dynamic stage of constant progress. Thousands of dedicated researchers and doctors have devoted their entire lives and careers to finding out ways to detect mesothelioma faster and to try and implement permanent cures. There is continuous experimentation in the field of mesothelioma and patients can exercise a personal choice in taking part in these experimental trials. These experiments are called clinical trials where volunteers are used to find out newer cures and alternative therapies. These are carried out on these volunteers to determine their effectiveness and safety as well. Entering mesothelioma clinical trials is purely a personal choice and no one can be forced into it. These experiments are conducted to find out new and improved ways of detecting this deadly cancer and find out effective ways of eliminating it from the human body. These experimental cures are administered to the patients under extremely well regulated and controlled. environments. The participants become part of a research team where there are doctors, nurses, social workers as well as other health care officials. They monitor the health of the client prior to the trial, observe the participant during the trial and also stay in touch after the conclusion of the trail. The participant has to be constantly in touch with the doctors during the trial, and perhaps even more so than in normal life. However there are certain things that a participant must take into account before signing up for a clinical trial. Since these are relatively new and untested cures, there might be side effects which are not wholly pleasant. Secondly, it is not guaranteed that the experiment will be effective since these are still in the trial and error process. Lastly the trials might require the participant to endure more treatment, doctor visits and even staying at the research site if required. |

The issues surrounding mesothelioma are becoming so prominent day after day as, as increasing number of people are being diagnosed with mesothelioma. At an average estimate, more than 3000 mesothelioma cases are being diagnosed every year. As the numbers rise, so do the billions of dollars which are being spent behind mesothelioma lawsuits. People are now realizing the extent to which they have been maltreated by the corporations where they have worked for years. These corporations exposed their workers to the deadly effects of asbestos knowing full well that they were ruining thousands of innocent lives. Today, when the deadly effects or rather the symptoms of mesothelioma are actually showing up in people it is retribution time for all these people. If you have been victimized then it is time for you to have your say and stand up to claim for damages. But then again, it is not that easy. You must remember that these companies have huge resources at their disposal and this includes both financial and legal resources. They will try to save their faces in any way they can, including making flat denials about asbestos exposure. So the first thing that you have got to do is to find yourself a mesothelioma attorney. The legal issues surrounding mesothelioma have become so specialized and complex that an entire sphere of legal expertise has grown up around the condition. There are mesothelioma law firms and mesothelioma lawyers as well as attorneys. Thus you need specialized and technical legal help if you really want to win the lawsuit. The mesothelioma attorney that you choose will have to have intensive experience and technical expertise about the field of mesothelioma litigation. There are many complex issues that surround the matter of mesothelioma litigation and your attorney has to be shrewd enough to work around these complexities. Firstly, there have been many governmental efforts to stop mesothelioma litigation and these efforts have been taken at the request of the many influential corporations that dot the industrial landscape of the United States. Secondly, mesothelioma is a condition which has a very long gestation period where the symptoms of the condition can appear after 20 to 30 years after the time of exposure to asbestos. So when you are looking around, make sure you make the right choice and pick someone who can actually defend your life and your rights. |

Since the 20th century, asbestos legislation has become a very controversial subject of debate. As more and more individuals are showing up symptoms of mesothelioma, the billions of dollars in lawsuits against the companies keep rising as well. Companies are having to pay millions of dollars to compensate for their inhuman activities relating to asbestos exposure. As a result there has been a lot of discussion about asbestos legislations and its implications on the victim's right to sue the guilty corporations who were responsible for their physical and mental devastation. The government, the influential corporations as well as thousands of victims and social rights activists have had a lot to do in their efforts to either establish the permanency of mesothelioma litigation or not. At the behest of these mammoth companies who rule the scene, the government has often in the past tried to initiate legislatory processes that can put a stop to mesothelioma litigation. Thus ever since the late 1900s, there have been many bills which have been passed either to boost mesothelioma litigation or to uphold the cause of these death dealing asbestos companies. It was during the 1970s that the government first found out about the deadly effects of asbestos. In the 1980s there were bills passed to create funds of mesothelioma patients and needed contributions from the asbestos companies who had brought about this state of affairs in the first place. In the late years of the 1900s the Asbestos Workers Recovery Act and the Occupational Disease Compensation Act were introduced. This furthered the cause of the mesothelioma patients to demand for compensation. In 1999 The Fairness in Asbestos Compensation Act brought forward and this established a formal line of proceedings for asbestos litigation. Also a mesothelioma fund was to be created. However, things took a surprising turnaround in 2003 when The Fairness in Asbestos Injury Resolution Act was passed. This stipulated that mesothelioma settlements would not be financed using tax payers money but that there would be a privately maintained fund created by asbestos companies and insurers as well. This act has the potential to stop all forms of future mesothelioma litigation. Basically mesothelioma victims cannot sue the corporations for aid, but rather approach the fund for financial help. But the amounts of money received would be much lower than the settlements awarded in a lawsuit. Fortunately however, this bill is still being debated. So, if you have been victimized by any commercial enterprise do not hesitate to stand up and demand for compensation. Do it NOW, before it is too late. |
